The Advice That Great Parents Rely On

When you gather the right knowledge and skills for it, parenting is a wonderfully joyous experience. The tips provided here can ease the way to a joyful experience in parenthood.

All you need is a clear kitchen counter and a rolled-up towel. Put the towel on the counter and put your child on it so that his head is under the sink faucet. Then turn on the faucet to run water over his hair. For many young children, this practice will be less fearful for them because they won’t have to worry about having water dumped over their heads or having to dunk their heads under water.

If you are going on a trip with a young child, keeping their routines for bedtimes and eating will help them enjoy themselves more. Travel is stressful for small children, especially infants. However, if you follow their normal bedtime ritual no matter where you are, they are likely to have no problems sleeping.

Although you do need to spend lots of time with the kids, you also need to make time for yourself. Drawing and enforcing this boundary allows you to maintain your individuality while still being an excellent parent.

As parents we sometimes need to take a step back, and let our teenagers make their first step into young adulthood, by attending the college that they choose. Teens who feel pressured may make an entirely different choice as a way of shunning their parents’ control.

If cutting teeth is painful for your child, put certain foods, such as carrots, cucumbers or pickles into a mesh teething feeder. A flavored teether will encourage your child to continue chewing through the pain. The longer a child uses this tasty teether, the more relief they will feel and the happier you both will be.

By setting firm, yet positive, boundaries and rules for your children you can avoid a lot of family discord and everyone will get along better. For instance, instead of saying “no hitting” as a rule, you can reposition it as “always be gentle when touching”.

If you want to avoid getting your children too cranky and bored, then periodically make travel stops. The longer distance that you travel, the more stops you should make. You will have a far more pleasant trip if you take your time, with frequent breaks to relieve the tedium for everyone. Keep your eyes peeled for restaurants that have playgrounds, parks, and nice open fields where your kids can take a break and burn off a little unneeded energy.

The amount of knowledge you have about successful child-rearing can make a huge difference in your overall enjoyment of being a parent. It makes sense to learn from parents who have gone before you, and find ways to expand on their discoveries. So, you should listen to these tips.
